The snow lasted through Christmas Day, then began to melt on Boxing Day. Now, New Year's Day, it's all gone. I'm back at my studio and settling in to a new project. Not just a western scene now, but a WINTER western scene. I don't think I have ever seriously attempted snow before, so this is a new challenge.
As usual, I won't know what I've got until it's done!

Here we are, half way through December, and no one who wanted portraits done for Christmas have come through. Typical. Still, I had a couple who gave me down payments, and even they haven't gotten the photos to me. I guess they don't really want them for Christmas.
In any case, I am still staying very busy. I know have most of the elements ready for the book cover. I just need to get together with Eric so we can play around with it on photoshop. Then, of course, there's figuring out the publishing site! That's next on the list. But, we're getting there! Now, all we have to do is bring these three paintings into one image, and add the text. No problem. FRUSTRATION!
Still busy! Getting some writing done, but mostly focusing on preparations for upcoming Christmas shows and fairs. I'll be at the Christmas Craft Fair at the Community Center on Camano Island on the 18th of Nov. Then, I will also have a table at Lady Fit, in Stanwood, on Dec. 2nd. Come on by for some unique Christmas gifts, or commission a personal pet portrait.
I'm also working on my book cover design. I think I'm happy with the one I have on the go now, but still some work to do on the rough before I start the serious piece. Here it is, so far. Keep in mind, it is still just a rough! A BUSY MONTH! Wow, what a busy month! I thought that once the open house was behind us, I would have spare time--ha, ha, ha! I have been accepted onto the Mothers' Day Studio Tour for May of next year, but since most of my work is done on commission basis, I have very little inventory for a show as large as this one is. Time to get serious, and get pastelling (is that even a word?)! Not only do I need to have more originals to offer up for sale, but I need to have those originals scanned and printed so that they can also be available. The big question is: How much inventory do I need? There is always the fear of running out, and since this is a five day show, with a lot of traffic expected, one would assume that the more I have available, the better. But what if very little of it sells? Oh, the dilemma!
SEPTEMBER 30th: I LAUNCHED MY NEW STUDIO!
Thank you to Beth, as well, for coming up a day early and helping with the final preparations. She has a wonderful eye for detail and really brought my gallery alive with minor but effective adjustments.
Another big thank you, to Eric, who helped me get this web page up and running. He is my technical adviser on all aspects and has also been supportive in my new adventures. |
